Investment Promotion Seminar on the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and Cooperation Potential between Da Nang City and Austria

A delegation from the Da Nang City People's Committee, led by Mr. Phan Thai Binh, Member of the Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, visited and worked in Austria on 29–30 July 2026. The delegation worked with the Embassy of Vietnam in Austria and co-organized an investment promotion seminar to showcase Da Nang's investment environment and to introduce its potential, competitive advantages, and portfolio of projects calling for investment — particularly in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone — in order to drive the province's economic development. The seminar drew strong interest from Austrian partners and generated valuable exchanges on concrete cooperation opportunities. The delegation also visited and held working sessions with Austrian Development Agency (AED), the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), and the Vienna University.

Bilateral relations between Vietnam and Austria are very encouraging. On the basis of the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), economic ties between the two countries have been growing strongly. According to Vietnamese customs data, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Austria reached approximately USD 3 billion in 2025 — an increase of nearly 24% — of which Vietnam's exports rose by nearly 28% to USD 2.5 billion. This growth momentum is expected to continue into 2026.

Recently, the city has carried out a number of activities with Austria, including organizing a seminar to introduce its financial center on 17 November 2025 in Vienna, and signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation with Austrian Development Agency (AED) on 24 March 2026 in Vietnam.

Austria is a highly developed industrial nation with notable strengths in manufacturing, transport technology, logistics, green energy, environmental technology, innovation, finance, tourism, and smart-city infrastructure development — fields that align closely with Da Nang's current orientation toward attracting investment and developing industry. Mr. Phan Thai Binh affirmed that the city is committed to offering preferential conditions for investors with respect to licensing procedures, taxation, land, and human resources. Both sides expressed the hope that the coming period will bring many exchanges of consulting experts and the implementation of concrete projects for the city./.
